Scottish giants Celtic FC are reportedly interested in signing Watford FC keeper Ben Foster should they fail to hold onto Fraser Forster. And according to Kevin Phillips, the 37-year-old will be the perfect addition to the Hoops squad but at the same time will be a hard catch.
Kevin Phillips told Football Insider: “I rate Fozzy. I played with him at Birmingham. I think he has had a fantastic season at Watford. He has been there before and now he is having another stint and he would certainly be a great choice, and great at Celtic.
“If I was Neil Lennon and I had to pick out of those three you would look to go for a Ben Foster.
“Whether he would want to leave the Premier League, I am not sure he would. He is playing regularly in the best league in the world. Fozzy is a fantastic goalkeeper.”
Will Ben Foster be eager to make a move to Scotland?
Ben Foster has been with the Hornets since joining them two years ago from West Brom and this ongoing season, the 37-year-old has played in 29 Premier League games so far, managing to keep nine clean sheets.
The player though is out of contract at the end of the summer and as things stand, he is not likely to sign a new long-term deal at the club.
This automatically makes Ben Foster a great choice for Neil Lennon but as per the rumours, he is not the only keeper who’s being eyed by Celtic.
Keepers like Joe Hart and Claudio Bravo are also on the club’s radar but we are pretty confident the Hoops will only make a move for these players once Lennon is sure to miss out on Southampton keeper Fraser Forster.
Also, unlike Forster, not a lot of keepers will be eager to shift bases to Scotland especially towards the end of their careers and they might as well sign for a Championship side and remain in England for the 2020-21 season.
And we are sure, a player like Ben Foster who’s played for teams like Manchester United will choose to join Celtic only when all his other options have been exhausted.
