Pep Guardiola is currently on a spending spree and his latest addition to Manchester City’s defensive fortress is Frenchman, Benjamin Mendy for a whopping £52 million. And as per Who Scored, the 23-year-old French International does not have any significant weaknesses. So is the left-back really that good? Is he really the most perfect left-back in the world?

ATTACK:

Benjamin Mendy’s characteristics chart on Who Scored clearly states that crossing the ball is one of his strong suits and this is a clear indication that the left-back likes to venture forward at every given opportunity. A talent that will clearly excite Pep Guardiola. And in many ways, Benjamin Mendy is a perfect fit for a team like Manchester City. City have been gifted with a handful of great wingers and most of them love to cut back inside the pitch. This means that Mendy will have acres and acres of green shape ahead of him to run into.

Benjamin Mendy will also come handy if Guardiola decides to play a back three for Manchester City. In such a case both the new signings Mendy and Walker can easily play as wings backs. But we doubt if Guardiola will try that after already having failed to implement the said formation last season.

DEFENSE:

Who Scored very clearly indicates that 23-year-old Benjamin Mendy does not have any significant weaknesses but we would like to believe otherwise. With all fairness to the Ligue 1, it is nowhere as competitive as the Premier League. So expect to see a few of Mendy’s weaknesses during the course of the next season. But the positive aspect to that is the fact that he is only 23 years old, hence he has ample amount of time to rectify those mistakes and turn into a fine player.

The Football Fan Base view:

Benjamin Mendy is undoubtedly a wonderful buy for £52 million given the fact that he is only 23 and has over a decade of top flight football still left in him. And we strongly believe that he is a much better buy than Kyle Walker.
