UCL Champions League final UEFA Champions League
UEFA Champions League

Manchester City, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea have all qualified for the Champions League next season while Arsenal still have a faint chance of making it to the top tier of European football.

Arsenal have finished out of the top four of the Premier League this season but Unai Emery’s side can still make it to the Champions League given that they will be playing in the Europa League final.

The Gunners will take on Chelsea in the Europa League final and if they can manage to win it then they would have direct entry into the Champions League next season.

But now it looks like both Arsenal, as well as Man United, can qualify for the UCL next campaign – courtesy of Manchester City.

As per the Mirror:

“The Premier League champions have been under investigation by a regulatory committee over a series of leaks into their financial conduct.

“Officials from UEFA’s financial control board are set to submit their findings and will reportedly push for at least a one-year ban from Europe’s premier competition.”

The New York Times further reports:

“The files are said to include emails and internal club documents showing efforts by City to circumvent UEFA’s financial fair-play regulations by masking cash infusions from a United Arab Emirates state-backed investment company through inflated sponsorship agreements with entities including the U.A.E.’s national airline, Etihad.”

If the ban on Man City is imposed then it will open up the door for one more Premier League club to gain entry into the Champions League.

So if the punishment is handed out to City and also Arsenal fail to win the Europa League then it will be the Gunners who will be given entry to the top tier of European football.

And in case the North London club does go on to win the UEL then it could be Manchester City who would be drafted for the Champions League next season.

This will surely be good news for both Man United and Arsenal but to ensure that everything falls in place, Arsenal will have to win the Europa League so that United can also get into the UCL.

But it is still unclear whether the ban – if imposed would be handed out this season or in the following one.
