If the headline has left you a bit puzzled then trust us, we have have been having the same feelings.
Firstly Rangers have announced today that centre-back Bruno Alves has been allowed to move out of the club after the player’s contract has been suspended by mutual consent.
The 36-year-old will move out of Ibrox after just one season with the club and is all set to join Serie A side Parma in the coming few days.
But in a rather shocking decision Gers have named their squad for the Europa League clash and Bruno Alves have been shown as one of the defenders.
But if logic persists Bruno Alves’ name should not be on that list given the fact that his contract has already been terminated.
So now with Bruno Alves leaving Rangers, Steven Gerrard has only two centre-backs in his 22-man squad for the Europa League clash.
Can Rangers register a new player?
Unfortunately no.
The Gers have two wildcard entries but we are pretty sure that those will be used to accommodate new arrivals Lassana Coulibaly and Umar Sadiq into the squad.
Is there a way out for the Ibrox outfit?
There are a couple of things that Steven Gerrard can do to ensure that his team does not fall short in the centre-back category.
The Light Blues manager can bring in an academy player into the squad. Youth players do not need registrations.
Gerrard also has the option of John Flanagan who was signed from Liverpool a couple of weeks ago. Flanagan is essentially a right-back but has the ability to play across the defensive line, including the centre-back position.
