Scottish side Celtic FC are planning to make a move for Wigan Athletic forward Joe Gelhardt in the coming weeks, as per Football Insider.
The report claims: “Celtic are ready to make a formal move for Wigan Athletic striker Joe Gelhardt as they look to beat old boss Brendan Rodgers to his signature.
“Football Insider revealed earlier this week that the Scottish champions are keeping close tabs on the 18-year-old centre-forward tipped for huge things.
“A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club are lining up an offer for Gelhardt after Wigan announced earlier this week they have entered administration.
“The Hoops know it will take a major bid and contract offer to land the England Under-18 international despite the Championship club’s financial troubles.”
Can Celtic FC sign Joe Gelhardt?
Joe Gelhardt is a product of the Wigan youth academy and he was promoted to the senior side last summer. And during the 2019-20 season, he has played in 16 Championship matches – almost all of these appearances coming off the bench.
The centre-forward has one year left on his current deal with the club and if teams like Leicester City and Everton are seriously interested in signing him then we do not think Celtic FC will even stand a chance.
The only way the Bhoys can bring Gelhardt on board is if they manage to wrap up this transfer before the two Premier League giants make up their mind.
But having said that, Wigan will not want to agree on a deal so easily since they know very well that a club like Everton or Leicester can pay a handsome transfer fee for the 18-year-old.
Celtic FC though will be looking to lure in the England U18 international by guaranteeing him regular first-team football.
