Chelsea beat Everton 4-0 in the Premier League meaning they are still holding onto their Champions League spot right about the likes of Man United and Wolves.

The win means the Blues are able to maintain their three-point lead ahead of Manchester United who are currently fifth on the table.

But despite picking up two wins in their last three league matches, Frank Lampard is not ready to make any swift prophecies about their Champions League hopes for the upcoming season since there are close to half a dozen sides who are still in the race to finish in the top four.

“I’m a bit wary to say that,” the manager admitted when asked if they can finish in the top-four.

“The last two performances would look like that, but I’m experienced enough to know that we go to Villa away next, a team fighting for their lives.

“We’ve had inconsistencies recently, but who hasn’t other than Liverpool in this league? I don’t accept those inconsistencies obviously, but it’s understandable in this transitional period.

“There’s still a long way to go. It may look a small cushion from fifth now, but we have to fight to the end.

“It is in our hands, and when I said we were underdogs before, I was looking at the bigger scene. I’m not going to say we’re favourites now.

“There’s a lot of work to be done, and we have to fight the inconsistencies to get the points. It doesn’t feel to me like we’re favourites now.”

Can Chelsea keep their Champions League place?

Despite all the pressure, Chelsea are managing to hold onto their Champions League spot but they are finding it really hard to stitch together some good results.

Out of the 29 games which they have played so far, the Blues have won just 14 games out of those and if they keep going at this rate then surely they’ll find themselves in the Europa League next campaign.

Also, Manchester United have started gaining momentum since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes and if they can overwhelm Spurs next weekend then the Red Devils will be pretty confident about overtaking Chelsea by the end of the season.

And if these problems weren’t enough, Chelsea are yet to face the likes of Man City, Sheffield, Wolves and Liverpool in the league and it will be near impossible for them to pick up wins in all these matches.
