Rangers manager Steven Gerrard made a series of new signings during the summer transfer window but most of them have failed to stamp their mark at Ibrox.

While some have failed drastically others have decided to cut their loan spell short and head back home.

Brendan Rodgers, on the other hand, spent a very limited amount for Celtic in the summer but the Bhoys are currently sitting pretty at the top of the table with a game in hand.

But now the Celtic manager has decided that he needs to bring in a few attackers during the January transfer window and reports suggest that Rodgers has his eyes set on the duo of Andy Carroll and Jermain Defoe.

Andy Carroll is currently attached to West Ham United but the Englishman has been struggling for game time under Manuel Pellegrini this season.

Carroll was scheduled to be sold during the summer but his untimely injury but a stop to the proceedings and the forward ended up staying in London.

Andy Carroll has already played under Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool and reports are suggesting that the Celtic boss wants the forward on loan until the end of the season.

Jermain Defoe like Andy Carroll has been struggling for game time at Bournemouth as he has managed to play in just four Premier League games this season.

The move for Defoe though could be a permanent one given his low transfer fee and low wage rates as compared to Andy Carroll.

Rangers too have plans to add a couple of new players next month but they are yet to make any concrete move.

Umar Sadiq will be heading back to AS Roma at the start of next month meaning Gerrard needs to bring in a third striker to back up Lafferty and Alfredo Morelos.

The Gers have been linked with Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke who is yet to feature in the Premier League but if Gerrard does bring him in then he would have to guarantee the forward ample playing time.

Rangers are reportedly also looking at Fran Sol who currently plays for Eredivisie side Willem II but more than half a dozen European clubs are interested in signing him up meaning the Ibrox outfit are way below the pecking order right now.
