Former Man United forward Wayne Rooney was a pundit who was covering Manchester United’s 5-1 win over Cardiff City and after the match, the MLS striker had a thing or two to say about Liverpool.
Wayne Rooney started his career at Everton and then went on to become a Man United legend so it’s pretty clear that the former England international hates Liverpool.
But he has now taken a very unbiased stand claiming Liverpool are playing some top quality football and Man United need to follow that style.
“In my opinion, it (the title race) is between City and Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk has been the big difference to what Liverpool have had in previous years,” Wayne Rooney said(as per Liverpool Echo).
“He just brings a calmness to him. He’s a leader
“I think Jurgen Klopp looks like a dream to work for and we’re talking about Manchester United – that’s a manager that Manchester United need to get in – that style and that philosophy.
“From the outside all the players love him, all the fans love him. You want to go and play and win because it means so much to him.”
The Man United legend though refused to put Liverpool as his number one choice for being the champions claiming Man City will be able to overcome Jurgen Klopp’s
“I think City,” Rooney said when asked if Liverpool were favourites to win the Premier League.
“To be fair I don’t like any of them. It’s painful and if they win it they deserve to. I’m not saying they shouldn’t or aren’t good enough.
“They’re a fantastic team but City with their experience and when it comes to the last few weeks of the league I think City will come out on top.”
