The SPFL are currently trying really hard to find a way to properly end the 2019-20 season meaning the wait for Celtic to be crowned champions grows even longer.

While a number of solutions have poured in during the past couple of weeks but the interpretation put forward by former Rangers man Ronald de Boer might make the best sense.

De Boer has said the season should be wrapped up by naming Celtic the winners of the 2019-20 campaign but they shouldn’t be given the trophy.

He told talkSPORT“You don’t give them a trophy, you just call them winners.

“There is no champion…but you, of course, have to announce someone to be in a position for the Champions League and I think it’s fair to say Celtic is the winner because they are [13] points ahead.

“It’s also likely that Celtic normally had one of the strongest teams [along] with Rangers…if you have to announce a team then I’d say Celtic of course.”

The Belgian Pro League and the Eredivisie have already shut shop over the past few weeks and a couple of days ago, it was announced that the Ligue 1 has officially been declared null and void.

So in such a scenario, the pressure keeps on mounting for the SPFL board to come up with a solution that can please everyone involved in this mess.

Celtic FC are currently 13 points clear at the top of the table means it’s only a matter of time before they wrap up yet another trophy. But on paper, they still need to win a number of matches before they or the SPFL can go around calling the Bhoys, ‘champions’.

UEFA have asked the various domestic leagues to submit plans by the end of May on how they intend to finish their remaining matches meaning SPFL will have to come up with a blueprint in the next couple of weeks, whether they like it or not.
