Rangers had been keeping tabs on Bolton youngster Luca Connell for a couple of months now but it seems that Gerrard eventually might not be able to sign him.

Luca Connell is currently a regular for the Bolton U-18 side but this past season, the 18-year-old has made appearances in the Championship.

Connell is without a doubt a very promising talent and can play in a string of different roles.

Primarily the youngster is a central midfielder who is known for his dribbling skills and long distance shooting efforts but in the need of the hour, he can also play as a defensive midfielder.

Luca Connell is set to become a free agent as his contract with Bolton expires this summer and a number of top clubs have shown interest in signing him up.

Recent reports have suggested that Celtic have now joined the race to sign the midfielder and Neil Lennon believes that the Bhoys can swoop him up right under the noses of their Glasgow rivals.

In theory, this might seem a really great idea but we believe neither Rangers nor Celtic will come close to signing Connell given that a number of Premier League clubs are also chasing him.

If rumours are to be believed then the likes of Wolves and Norwich City are also in the hunt for the Bolton midfielder and there is no way that either of the Glasgow team can match up to these English giants.

Wolves had a really great season in the Premier League this time around and if they come calling we doubt whether Luca Connell will even hear any other offers.

Having said that though, Bolton have still not given up hope and there are some who feel that the 18-year-old might very well sign a new deal with the club.

Both Rangers and Celtic can in no ways match the financial power of the likes of Norwich or Wolves so their only genuine shot at signing the Bolton man is to offer him regular game time for the 2019-20 season.
