Cesc Fabregas will be leaving Chelsea to join AS Monaco this month – according to reports.
The midfielder has reportedly played his final game for Chelsea when he took the field for the Blues during their 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup this weekend.
Maurizio Sarri wanted Cesc Fabregas to stay at the club beyond the summer but the Spaniard will be moving to Monaco in order to play regular football.
Fabregas joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2014 and since then the midfielder has been a key figure in the Blues first XI. But this is perhaps the first season that the 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under the new Italian boss.
The Chelsea fans are surely upset that one of their legends would be leaving the club but according to former Liverpool man John Barnes, Cesc Fabregas means more to Arsenal than to Chelsea.
“He’s been a very, very important player to his country over the years, [and] to Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea,” Robinson said, as reported by the Express.
“It’s not a bad CV that he’s got.”
Barnes replied: “He’s an Arsenal player, he’s an Arsenal legend. He’s not a Chelsea legend.
“He’s been there four years, he hasn’t stamped his authority in terms of playing week in week out.
“Yes, it’s great that he’s leaving.
“I don’t know if that’s a goodbye to the Premier League or necessarily to Chelsea because, for me, Fabregas’ career is an Arsenal one as far as I’m concerned.”
Cesc Fabregas is a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy but he moved to England to join Arsenal’s academy in 2003.
And it was with the Gunners under Arsene Wenger that the midfielder played some of the best football during his professional career.
Cesc Fabregas played over 300 games for Arsenal – scoring 57 goals before he moved back to Barcelona in 2011.
But to be very honest, it was with Chelsea that Fabregas actually won silverware in England- picking up two Premier League winners medals and one FA Cup title.
