Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
And this match is set to be the first ever European game hosted in the new Spurs’ stadium after it finally opened its doors last week.
Spurs played their first game inside their new home last week vs Crystal Palace and there were a few issues regarding this match.
And if one of them is repeated during the Champions League clash then a number of fans could very well receive a stadium ban.
The South Stand of the new stadium holds around 17,500 spectators and most of them stood up to watch the Spurs’ victory over Palace in the Premier League.
But before the Lilywhites take on Man City in the Champions League, the club is asking the supporters not to repeat the same.
Right before the Champions League clash, Spurs have sent out emails to its fans which read(as reported):
”Fans are reminded that, as has always been the position in Premier League and UEFA Champions League stadia, standing during matches is against ground regulations.
“The offence is punishable by stadium bans and clubs are at risk of having capacities reduced in certain areas of the stadium if persistent standing is not dealt with.
“We, therefore, ask for your maximum cooperation with our stewards on this extremely important matter.
“If you are asked to be seated by a steward, please heed this instruction.
“This ensures that everyone can enjoy the match-day without obscured views and in a safe environment.”
Safe standing areas inside the stadium are currently against the rules during European games for both the Champions League as well as the Europa League.
But recently there has been heavy debate whether the same should be legalised during domestic games in England.
And the new Spurs’ stadium is already equipped with such facilities in case the future laws permit safe standing areas.
