Just when it was looking like Chelsea and Manchester United were gaining substantial ground in the signing of Aubameyang from Arsenal, things seem to have fallen apart.

As per a report in Spain, the Gabon international is set to dump the idea of moving out and will be signing a new contract with Arsenal very soon.

Football 365 have quoted: “Reports in Spain suggest that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could make a U-turn and sign a new contract at Arsenal despite interest from elsewhere.

“The Gunners striker has been tipped to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer, with his contract expiring in 2021 and the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan interested in his signature.

“However, in an unexpected boost for the Gunners, Catalan publication Sport now claim that Aubameyang is more likely to sign a new contract at the Emirates rather than leave.”

Aubameyang Arsenal

If this news is true then it is a huge blow for both Man United as well as Chelsea since Aubameyansg is one of the finest forwards in the Premier League right now.

This season the player has netted 17 goals in just 26 Premier League games and recently there had also been rumours that he could be available for as low as £30 million.

While this price tag might not have been true but getting their hands on such a top player would have been a really massive deal for either club.

But now Arsenal are about to win this battle as they seem to have convinced the forward to remain at the club and also sign a new contract.

Missing out on a player like Aubameyang is a big blow but some experts believe it would have been a waste of money to sign a player who is set to be 31-years-old in June and only has a couple of years of top football left in him.

Looking at the positive side, the forward has not yet signed the new deal meaning Man United and Chelsea still have a chance to try and change his mind.
