Frank Lampard has so far had a good enough campaign as the Chelsea manager and pretty soon the fans will be hoping their side can challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title.

But speaking on the Football Show, the Blues boss has made it clear that achieving this goal will not be an overnight thing and the last thing he would want to do is replicate either Liverpool or Man City’s process.

Frank Lampard said, as quoted by Sky Sports“I don’t want to jump the gun because what Liverpool and Manchester City have done has been clear; I’d be a fool to suggest we can bridge that gap quickly because there has been a lot of hard work at those clubs in terms of recruitment of top players, of great coaches.

“We have to be part of that process. We have to do it our way, we can’t try to copy.

“We have had experienced players around this year to help the youngsters but we know there are little areas within the squad… some of that’s what we have on the ground here already, some of that is how we might look to recruit.

“What’s going on in the world has made it very difficult to plan on that front. But going into this break I certainly felt we were moving in the right direction and with continued progress and work on the training ground, as well as potentially bringing in some players in key areas to try and help us bridge that gap, yes, I’ve got a strong belief that we can [challenge].”

What Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have respectively done at Man City and Liverpool are not unique but in order to follow in their footsteps, Chelsea will first have to bring in players who can play in that exact same model – all throughout the season.

And for that to happen, the manager will have to be given a number of years so that he can tinker around with his squad and finally come to a definite conclusion.

Sadly though, Lampard does not have that kind of luxury as this is 2020 and each poor season will cause huge financial losses to the Stamford Bridge outfit.

So even though the Chelsea manager has been forced to use a lot of youngsters in his first-team squad this season he will not take a similar gamble for yet another year. In turn, he will do the same thing what his predecessors have always done at the club.

Use the club’s financial power to lure in big stars and then rebuild the whole first XI around two or three such players.
