It was just a couple of days ago that Daily Star had reported about Chelsea showing interest in signing midfielder cum winger cum right-back, Jesus Corona from FC Porto.

Daily Star had claimed: “Chelsea are keeping tabs on Porto star Jesus Corona as a fall-back option in case they miss out on Jadon Sancho.

“Chelsea have been looking at potential alternatives and scouts have identified Corona as another option. The 27-year-old Mexico winger, who can also play wing-back, has two goals and 17 assists in 41 games for Porto this season.”

And now the 27-year-old’s agent has confirmed that the Premier League club had indeed shown interest in signing him during the upcoming transfer window.

Matias Bunge told Medio Tiempo, as reported by Sports Witness: “At some point, we talked to them. I cannot say if he’s option A, B or C, now they are rather rumours. We’ll have to wait a bit for this to continue moving forward and for the leagues to begin again and from there see what the next movements will be, because the market is a little bit stopped.

“He has two years left on his contract, he did awaken a lot of interest for his participation in this particular tournament, which has been outstanding and at a high level.

“But now with the current situation of the virus, everything has slowed down a bit, now the signings are in quarantine. The current clause is €30m, from there we’ll see how things happen. Today Jesus has been a fundamental part of Porto for several seasons and we’re going to see where it ends.

“We have spoken with several teams from England, Spain, some from Germany, but well, normally at this time of year we talk more deeply, and in this market, the leagues are either resuming or haven’t been able to conclude.

“All the teams are seeing what happens to their sales or their signings so from there the ball continues to roll in the offices.”

Jesus Corona is a right-sided midfielder who can play in a variety of other positions. But still, we do not think the Blues will be able to land this deal in the summer.

In each of the preferred position, Chelsea have a number of players already lined up meaning the Mexican international will have to prove his worth to Frank Lampard in case he does move to Chelsea.

It’s no secret that at his age he would love to ply his trade in the Premier League but he will only consider a move to Stamford Bridge if the Chelsea manager can guarantee him regular playing time during the 2020-21 season.

And we do not see where that promise will be fulfilled since, in midfield, the manager has players like Kovacic, Mason Mount and Kante while at right-back Reece James is shaping up to be a top-class player.

Also, the Blues have managed to bring in right-winger Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.
