Celtic FC might be making a big blunder by letting midfielder Jonny Hayes leave the club as a free agent, that’s according to Alex Bruce.

The midfielder joined Celtic FC from Aberdeen in 2017 and his current deal at Park Head is set to expire in this summer. And as per reports, Neil Lennon is not looking to offer him a new deal at the club.

While some might think this is a good decision given he’s about to enter the twilight of his career but according to Alex Bruce, Jonny Hayes still has a lot to give the club.

Bruce told Football Insider: “Yes, but it all depends on his contract and if he’s happy with it.

“He’s a good, good squad player, you can see Lenny plays him in the big games and he’s one of them reliable types so it will be a loss to Celtic, losing him, because he’s one of those manager’s dreams.

“He can play a number of positions, he looks a good lad as well so I’d be surprised if he leaves, I’d be surprised if they let him go.”

Neil Lennon earlier this month had made it clear that the club have not yet thrown away the idea of giving Hayes and Craig Gordon a new deal at the club by saying: “We’ll be talking with them as we go along.

“Their contracts run out on June 30 so we’ll hopefully speak with them and their representatives in the next few weeks.”

This season, Jonny Hayes had made only 14 appearances in the Premiership and most of them have been off the bench. And right now, Lennon has a flurry of midfielders at his disposal so we do not think the management will be too eager to hand the 32-year-old a new deal at the club.
