Chelsea are reportedly looking to sign Ugurcan Cakir as a replacement to their current number one Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Kepa has come under the scanner for his poor errors in front of goal all throughout this season and recently, Frank Lampard has chosen to make a statement by dropping the keeper to the bench and using Willy Caballero instead.
And right now, there have been heavy rumours that the club is looking to bring in a replacement for Kepa during the summer transfer window.
The Blues brought in Arrizabalaga in 2018 fro a transfer fee of €80 million and it’s safe to say that the player has failed to live up to his heavy price tag.
And now it seems like Chelsea are looking to make a move for Trabzonspor keeper Ugurcan Cakir at the end of the season.
Ugurcan Cakir has come up through the ranks at Trabzonspor and this season, the 23-year-old has played in 23 Super Lig games.
The player is under contract at his current club until the summer of 2024 and this season he has played some fine football for the Turkish club which seems to have caught the attention of Frank Lampard.
Do Liverpool also want Ugurcan Cakir?
The interest of Chelsea in Ugurcan Cakir might be a big blow for Liverpool who are reportedly also keeping tabs on the keeper and are likely to make a move for him during the summer.
And if Chelsea do make a strong move for Cakir then, there’s no chance of Liverpool leapfrogging over them since at Stamford Bridge, the player will have a guaranteed first-team place since the Blues are expected to offload Kepa Arrizabalaga at the end of the season.
Is Ugurcan Cakir a good replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga?
Kepa Arrizabalaga has made a number of poor errors this season and he is one keeper who falters under pressure. But as far as Cakir is concerned, Whoscored claimed that the 23-year-old has no significant weaknesses.
Also as per Whoscored, Kepa has played in 25 Premier League games for the Blues while Ugurcan has featured in 23 games. And based on these games, Kepa Arrizabalaga has a rating of 6.42 while Cakir has a rating of 6.93.
