Chelsea have spend sizeable amounts of money in order to sign Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner plus they are about to splurge on midfielder Kai Havertz as well.

But it seems like all this spending has hollowed out the pockets of the management pretty quicky since the Mirror as claiming that Lampard is now willing to look beyond his initial defensive targets of Ben Chilwell and Jan Oblak.

The report states: “The Blues want Ben Chilwell and Jan Oblak as their first-choice signings for left-back and goalkeeper respectively, but both have such enormous price tags on them that Chelsea may have to look elsewhere.

“Andre Onana and Nicolas Tagliafico are believed to be the alternatives for Lampard’s side to chase, with a £70m difference in price between Onana and the £100m-rated Oblak.

“Ajax have already promised Tagliafico he can leave this year if a bid comes in, while Leicester are standing firm on a valuation of above £80m for England international Chilwell.”

It’s the backline that has caused Chelsea the biggest problems this season but it seems like Lampard is running out of money to reshape his defence.

Signing players like Ziyech and Werner is a truly wonderful bit of business but if the Blues cannot find solid replacements for Kepa and Marcos Alonso, there’s no way they will be challenging for the Premier League title next season.

Onana and Nicolas Tagliafico are no doubt wonderful players and will also be very easy to bring on board but Ben Chilwell and Jan Oblak have been tried and tested at the top level meaning the Blues boss will have to waste no time in conditioning them.

But having said all this, this news will be great for Brendan Rodgers since the Leicester City manager would love to hold onto his left-back for one more season.
