Chelsea are in a mess right now in terms of their ownership and according to Petr Cech, there’s a possibility that the Blues might not be able to finish the Premier League season.

The UK government’s sanctions on Roman Abramovich has had a massive effect on the London club and while they have been allowed to function and play their matches but the government has enforced several conditions which need to be aptly fulfilled.

Chelsea won’t be able to sell merchandise, they won’t be able to sell new tickets plus they can only spend a limited amount of money during matchdays as well as for their away games.

According to Cech, who is currently an advisor for Chelsea, the situation at the club is really bleak and he’s admitted that without the authorities’ help they won’t be able to finish the current EPL season.

Cech told Sky Sports, as quoted: “We are focused on the things we can control, helping people and preparing for the game – that’s the only thing we can control at the moment. We want to help keep the integrity of the Premier League competition and try to do our best.

“We have to admit we go day by day as it’s not in our hands. The conversations are about if we can finish the season and we’re part of the Premier League. For us to carry on to finish the season would help everybody involved.

“I’m not involved in the talks with the government but the club are talking every day about the licence. We hope the situation will be clearer soon.

“We hope the people working for the club will be able to get their salaries and live their lives and work. But this is a difficult question for me to answer as I don’t know what the licence will be like day-to-day. At the training ground we’re trying to support each other and focus in difficult times.”

Chelsea managed to score a late winner to beat Newcastle United so thankfully, their off-the-field woes have not yet hampered their performances on the pitch.

The Blues are still favourites to finish third on the Premier League table but there’s no denying that a lot of the players will be worried about their futures if this situation is not resolved at the earliest.

Several players are out of contract in the summer and even the players who have time left on their hands will look to leave if this mess is not sorted out.

These issues will surely hamper their performances at some point in the season but we don’t think the British government will be too naive and look the other way. The government has already increased the matchday spending caps and has also allowed the sale of the club to go on meaning we should see a new Chelsea owner take charge very soon.
