Chelsea defender David Luiz was cut to a lone figure last season under Antonio Conte and it was more than clear that the Brazilian would leave the club during the summer transfer window.
But things have changed ever since Sarri took charge of the club and David Luiz has been featuring constantly this season.
He along with Antonio Rudiger have been the first choice defenders for the Chelsea boss this season and a couple of weeks ago, the Italian manager made it clear that he wanted David Luiz to stay at the club.
Talking about giving new deals to Luiz and Cesc Fabregas, the Chelsea manager said: “Si [Yes]. I spoke with the club one month ago about this. I know very well that it’s not easy, but I think that we can do a new deal for both.
“Because they are very important players for us. Because, on the other hand, it’s very difficult to find a centre-back for this level, and it’s very difficult to find a central midfielder technically like Fabregas.
“And so I think they have to stay with us.”
But now reports are suggesting that the centre-back has chosen to reject a new deal put forward by the club.
David Luiz currently wants a long-term deal at the club but currently, the Blues are ready to offer only a one year contract to the defender.
The London club have always had this strategy with players over 30 but David Luiz was hoping that they would make an exception for him given his string of good performances this season.
Now though, it is being reported that David Luiz is not ready to accept a short-term deal at the club and will look to make his way next month.
The defender is out of contract with Chelsea at the end of the season and if David Luiz does not find a new club next month then the Blues will have to let him go out for free next summer.
