Jorginho
Jorginho playing for Napoli

Maurizio Sarri was appointed as the new Chelsea boss during the summer and the first thing he did was to bring in Jorginho from Napoli.

And ever since, the Italian took his place in midfield, the Blues have looked a totally different side.

Often referred to as the pass master, Jorginho has been the fulcrum on which Chelsea have operated without losing a single game.

But all that changed last weekend when Chelsea were dismantled clinically by Spurs and Jorginho looked like a headless chicken.

The Stamford Bridge outfit did get back to winning ways this weekend against Fulham with Jorginho getting his Midas-touch back.

But speaking after the match, Maurizio Sarri has made it clear that fellow midfielder N’Golo Kante needs to help out Jorginho whenever the team are defending.

“I think he [Kante] played very well. He defended very well,” Sarri said.

“He needs, I think, to improve a little more from the tactical point of view, but it’s natural. In the national team, he usually plays with the two midfielders.

“Last season, sometimes with two midfielders and sometimes with three but in the same position. So I think it’s normal he needs to improve.

“Today [his positioning was] better, I think. When the ball was on the other side of the pitch, better. I remember only one mistake in the first half.

“With the ball on the other side, he has to stay very close to Jorginho. Otherwise, it’s a big problem for us.

“Jorginho can cut out passes from the opposition, but he’s not very good in the defensive phase in open spaces. So I think we need Kante very close to him.”

Chelsea will take on Wolves at Molineux on Wednesday following which they welcome Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
