Both Chelsea, as well as Man United, have been heavily linked with a move for Fiorentina’s 22-year-old winger Federico Chiesa.

The Genoa born player has been with the Serie A side since he was a youngster and this season he’s caught a lot of attention while playing for the senior side. In 23 top division matches, the winger has managed to score six and assist five goals.

Over the past couple of months, a number of top European clubs like Chelsea and Man United have been keeping tabs on him and some reports even claimed that Federico Chiesa has already held talks with some of these teams.

Is Federico Chiesa joining Chelsea or Man United?

To be really honest, everyone thought it was only a matter of time before Federico Chiesa was England bound but now the transfer seems to get murkier with each passing day.

A few days ago, Fiorentina’s director-general Joe Barone had admitted they are willing to sell the winger and a few clubs have already been in contact with them.

“We’ll see what his future will be at the end of the season,” Barone told Radio Toscana, as quoted by Daily Star.

“He is sought-after by Italian clubs, but also from foreign ones. If he wants to go then I’m sorry, but we’d accommodate him, providing the offer is fair. We must also see what he’s worth. [His price] may have dropped since last year. It must suit everyone, although there’s a chance that he’ll stay.

“I haven’t offered Federico anything. There hasn’t been a proposal, it’s fake news. The important thing is that a player wants to stay.”

Now though, Chiesa has himself come out to clear the air stating that neither Man United nor Chelsea have made any sort of contact with him.

The 22-year-old said, as reported: “There are no negotiations going on, there’s only Fiorentina. I don’t have an agent, I talk to the team and he’s always by my side.

“He is my personal assistant! We’ve never considered having an agent. In the future who knows. The rumours that linked me to Totti were fake news, Francesco was the first to clarify it.”

This statement is surely a double-edged sword for both the Premier League clubs since they can at least be relieved that other interested parties like Juventus and Inter Milan, much like them, have not yet held talks with the player.

But at the same time, Chelsea and Man United need to hasten their pace if they are at all serious about securing the services of Chiesa during the summer.
