Chelsea’s transfer ban has been lifted meaning Frank Lampard will be able to sign new players during the January transfer window.

Frank Lampard could not sign players during the summer due to the transfer embargo but despite that, the new manager has done a really fine job given they still manage to hold onto a Champions League spot.

And according to transfer expert Ian McGarry, the Blues boss is looking to sign atleast two new players during the current month which could further cement their place in the top four of the Premier League table.

As per McGarry, Lampard is trying to bring in a new centre forward and is also trying to sign a new central defender before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

“They have been linked with many, many players in this January window,” McGarry said on the Transfer Window Podcast via The Express.

“So far Frank Lampard, who of course is operating in his first transfer window as Chelsea manager and certainly his experience at Derby County is going to be a lot different in terms of finances available and quality of players that he would be looking at, has resisted the opportunity to dive into the market and just basically sign the first player who comes up.

“We know that the first priority is a striker who can back up Tammy Abraham.

“That is a position as I’ve said that they’re yet to fill, indeed it looks like Olivier Giroud will go to Inter Milan leaving only Michy Batshuayi as the recognised senior backup to Abraham – there’s interest in Batshuayi as well.

“The second priority is a centre-half, he wants someone who can command a defence which has looked inconsistent at best with regards to conceding goals, especially at set-pieces.

“They had a resounding result against Burnley at Stamford Bridge but that was only their second win at home in five matches in the Premier League.”

Chelsea are expected to let Olivier Giroud leave meaning Frank Lampard will have to bring in a replacement for the Frenchman and as far as the defender is concerned, the manager knows very well that defence has been one his weakest links so far this season.
