Manchester United are currently out in the market looking to buy a new centre-back and Jose Mourinho has his eyes set on Spurs’ Toby Alderweireld.
United have already made an initial bid of £75 million but their bid has fallen short by £20 million according to the latest reports.
Spurs are demanding £75 million for Alderweireld which has forced Mourinho to look elsewhere and now the Red Devils have shifted their focus to Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet.
Clement is a much cheaper alternative to Alderweireld with the former’s release clause at Sevilla being just £31 million.
Manchester United have made a concrete approach for Lenglet last week and it seems that their move has alerted Chelsea.
Chelsea themselves have been tracking the 22-year-old for almost six months now but up until now, the Blues were taking it easy.
The Stamford Bridge outfit first wanted to sort out their crisis of finding a new manager and then make a move for Lenglet but now with United jumping the queue, Chelsea have no other option but to act swiftly.
According to France Football, Chelsea have already held a meeting with the defender’s agent this week and Roman Abramovich wishes to attract the player by offering him regular first-team football.
Manchester United still have eyes on Toby Alderweireld but Jose Mourinho will surely not want to spend £75 million on a centre-back who is 29 year’s old.
