Chelsea dropped their first points of the new English Premier League season as they were held to a goalless draw by West Ham United at the London Stadium.

The match was a closely fought battle as both teams failed to capitalize on changes to take the lead and eventually secure the three points. But the bigger blow will surely have been suffered by Chelsea given that they have dropped down to the third spot on the league table.

Chelsea are currently two points behind leaders Liverpool and with back to back games against Liverpool coming up, the next couple of weeks could easily decide if the Blues are truly at par with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

But when Maurizio Sarri was asked this same question, the Italian like the man he is, chose not to mince his words and gave a very honest and straightforward answer.

“They (Liverpool) are a step forward of us at this moment,” said Sarri,

“We have to play against a very, very good team who have worked with the same coach for three years.

“We have started to work together 40 days ago, less 10 days for the international break, so for us, it is a bit early.

“We have to work and then, maybe, in one year we will be at the same level as Liverpool.’

“It will be a really difficult match. Maybe spectacular but for us, difficult. I don’t think there is an easy game against Salah, Firmino and Mane.”

Chelsea take on Liverpool in the League Cup in midweek straight after which they meet again in the Premier League on Saturday.

While Sarri is confident his team will take some time to match the standards of Liverpool but there’s no denying the famed new manager effect at Chelsea.

A number of new bosses have won the Premier League with the Blues in their very first season and Maurizio Sarri will be very much aware of this fact.

West Ham United on the hand, have slowly and steadily picked up their performances after multiple defeats during the first month, the Hammers have to pick up points in each of their previous two games.

Next up Pellegrini’s side take on Manchester United which will be no cake walk.
