Timo Werner RB Leipzig
Timo Werner has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool from RB Leipzig

Chelsea are looking to make a move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner who remains a top transfer target for Liverpool – as per the latest updates.

The Blues lost Eden Hazard last summer and in January Frank Lampard had made it clear that one of his top priorities is to bring in a player who can fill-up that goal-scoring void at the club.

The manager had said: “I will look at all areas of the team but I think it was quite clear in the summer that you lose Eden Hazard, who was a huge part of scoring or creating our goals last season and the season before that.

“I think we’ve found ways as a team where we can still be competitive. We’ve shown that in the league and now the Champions League.

“But if we’re looking at if we can get even better, can we get better in forward areas to help the idea of being more clinical, then I think we’ll always look at that.”

Despite making moves for a number of strikers, the Blues failed to sign anyone but Lampard is now prioritising the signing a new centre-forward as soon as the current season ends. And that player could be Timo Werner.

Werner joined Leipzig in 2016 and right now he is one of the best goal-scorers in European football having netted 21 goals in just 25 Bundesliga games for the German side this season.

And for the longest time, the 24-year-old has been tipped to join Liverpool FC with reports even claiming that he was on the verge of moving to Anfield last summer but somehow the deal did not materialize.

So even though we feel this is a pretty bold move from Chelsea but in the end, they are likely to miss out on the player since Werner himself has admitted his love for Jurgen Klopp and his desire to play for the German manager.

And if this isn’t enough, the latest reports suggest Jurgen Klopp is keen to meet Timo Werner once this whole pandemic situation ends hinting that Liverpool will once again try and sign him.

Chelsea though will surely not be fazed with all these news since Lampard badly needs a new centre-forward for the upcoming season or else the club can kiss their Champions League status goodbye.
