SPFL have announced that all the four major leagues in Scotland including the Scottish Premiership are about to end immediately. But UEFA might not like this idea.

Dundee were the last club who were yet to vote on the recent resolution and were initially were opposed to the idea. But this week, they did an u-turn to vote ‘Yes’ on the ballot meaning the 2019-20 season is about to be wrapped up.

The statement read: “The SPFL has announced that the directors’ written resolution ending Season 2019/20 in the Ladbrokes Championship, Ladbrokes League 1 and Ladbrokes League 2, has been passed with agreement by 81% of all members.

“The announcement comes after the remaining Ladbrokes Championship club signified their agreement to the resolution today; resulting in Dundee United FC being declared champions of the Ladbrokes Championship, Raith Rovers FC being declared champions of Ladbrokes League 1, and Cove Rangers FC being declared champions of Ladbrokes League 2.

“The SPFL board has also committed to consult on possible league restructuring in time for season 2020/21 around an expanded Premiership model and has appointed Hearts chair Ann Budge and Hamilton Academical chair Les Gray to jointly lead a reconstruction task force, bringing in other football figures to provide input and support. The SPFL executive will provide all possible services and support to make the work of the task force a success.”

This may look simple at first glance with Celtic FC about to be announced the champions of the top division but the SPFL still need permission from UEFA which could be the most tricky thing.

The statement concluded with: “The resolution also gives authority to the board to make a decision on the remainder of the Ladbrokes Premiership season and the board is committed to consulting with Premiership clubs before any such decision is made.”

While most people feel the Scottish Premiership is officially about to be wrapped up but UEFA might not like the idea since they had made some really harsh comments when the Belgian top division decided to end in a similar fashion.

Not so long ago, UEFA had released a statement saying: “It is of paramount importance that even a disruptive event like this epidemic does not prevent our competitions from being decided on the field, in accordance with their rules and that all sporting titles are awarded on the basis of results.

“We are confident that football can restart in the months to come – with conditions that will be dictated by public authorities – and believe that any decision of abandoning domestic competitions is, at this stage, premature and not justified.

“UEFA reserves the right to assess the entitlement of clubs to be admitted to the 2020/21 UEFA club competitions.

“The Belgian Pro League said it had had “constructive” discussions with UEFA on Friday morning in which it “contested any approach which would force a league to continue in the current health crisis”.”

This basically means that UEFA might not be too pleased with this idea especially since Rangers FC have been claiming that there has been foul play in the voting process. And if UEFA does not grant permission then the top division might have to be finished in the usual fashion.
