Chelsea are sure to bring in new players during the January transfer window now that their transfer ban ended but there are fears that the new arrivals could have a negative impact on the academy lads.

For years, Chelsea have been guilty of ignoring their own youngsters who have then gone on to shine for other clubs. But so far this season, that has not been the case since Frank Lampard has been relying on his young brigade courtesy of the transfer embargo.

But now that the London club are free to bring in new players, there are rumours that the likes of Mason Mount and Tomori could fall down the pecking order once the cavalry arrive next month.

The Chelsea boss though thinks there is nothing to sweat for the young Chelsea players since they will be spurred on due to the competition claims Lampard.

The manager said: “No, I don’t think it is a concern at all. Because they are here to stay. I believe in the quality of the young players here.

“I want them all to get better and they will improve, for sure, because of the age of them and because of where they are in their development.

“But as we move forward and we want to improve the squad, it will be done with a view to what we have and where we can get better. I think those sort of challenges should be ones that the young players stand up to.

“If we do bring players in, that should be one where they say: ‘Okay, I want to show the player I am.’ Knowing them as players and personalities, I think they have all got that.”

While some new players are sure to come into Stamford Bridge in January but the Chelsea manager has also said that he will not go crazy.

“I am calm about this window, I am very calm about it,” Lampard said[as reported by ESPN].

“We are improving. Even the little bumps of the past two weeks are just part of the process. I believe in what we’ve got now. I don’t think we’re going to be crazy just because the ban has been lifted.”
