Rangers had a woeful last season which saw them finish third on the Scottish League table – 12 points behind champions Celtic. But the Gers management is making sure that a repeat of last season does not occur this time around.

The Ibrox outfit have brought former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard in order to overhaul the whole squad and the new boss has made a considerable impact during the short time that he has been with the club.

The Rangers fans are quite content with the business that Gerrard has done during the summer transfer window and they feel that they are now ready to challenge Celtic FC for the league title this season.

But former Celtic forward Craig Bellamy begs to differ.

Bellamy who had a small but successful stint with the Hoops in 2005(as a loanee from Newcastle United) has claimed that even though Rangers will make considerable ground under new boss Steven gerrard but he does not see them winning the league this year.

He has also gone on to add that the it might take the Gers a couple of years before they lift the trophy during which Celtic will remain the dominant force in Scotland.

Bellamy said: “It’s a tough job,

“As long as Rangers fans see them getting closer or going somewhere. Celtic are still going to be dominant again this year but if he can just bridge that gap, just because it was too big last year.

“Bridge it just a little bit closer, which I don’t see him not being able to do. And Rangers fans see it and think ‘you know what, next couple of years we’ll be there’.

“That’s the challenge he has – to get them close, to find one or two gems. Play well for him, play a certain way.”

Craig Bellamy only spent four odd months with Celtic which saw his bag nine goals in 15 appearances. And despite the fans wanting him to stay in Scotland, the forward went back to England after which he had various stints with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and West Ham United.

The 39-year-old had two stints with Liverpool during which he played alongside Steven Gerrard so he would know his former mate inside out.

But coming back to the Celtic vs Rangers debate, we will have to see whether the Gers can conjure any magic under Steven Gerrard. What we do know is the fact that the Light Blues fans have been in very positive mood even since the former Liverpool legend joined the club.
