Liverpool managed to salvage a 1-1 draw vs Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend thanks to a superb long-distance strike from Daniel Sturridge.

Chelsea took the lead early on thanks a left-foot strike from Eden Hazard and for most of the game, the Blues seemed to be cruising along.

Just when everyone thought that Jurgen Klopp’s men were about to lose their first game of the season, former Chelsea man Daniel Sturridge came up with a wonder-strike to ensure the Reds do not go back to Liverpool empty-handed.

And immediately after the goal, the travelling Liverpool supporters were waiting to see the iconic Daniel Sturridge celebration.

But sadly the Daniel Sturridge celebration never came as the striker seemed to raise his hands in apology.

This though was a bit of a shocker for both sets of fans as Daniel Sturridge did not shy away from celebrating when he scored vs the Blues in midweek.

So what prompted the Daniel Sturridge celebration to go mute on Saturday?

The England international has now revealed why he chose not to celebrate after his late striker vs his former side saying:

“I saw Kante coming and took one touch and didn’t think about it too much and just took the shot on.

“It felt great.

“My cousin gave me some stick the other day for celebrating against Chelsea because he’s a Chelsea fan.

“I think at the moment like the other night I got excited and celebrated.

“Obviously I’ve played for this club and achieved stuff with them and got a lot of respect for the players, staff and everything, so I didn’t want to celebrate today.

“But it’s a great feeling to help get a result for the team.

“We deserved a draw, the bare minimum because we played well, had a lot of chances in the first half and a couple in the second as well, so I think we got what we deserved in the end.

“Every point counts in the Premier League.

“It’s a long season so we just have to stay focused.”

The Daniel Sturridge celebration is easily one of the most iconic celebrations in world football and naturally, the Liverpool fans were in awe when the striker refused to celebrate at Stamford Bridge.

But now that the striker has cleared the air about the whole issue, the fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
