Arsenal released Danny Welbeck this summer once his current deal with the club came to an end.

Danny Welbeck missed a large chunk of the previous season after picking up a knee injury last November and he only managed to make 8 Premier League appearances.

This was the main reason why the Gunners decided not to offer the England international a new contract at the club meaning he is now a free agent.

Talking about Welbeck, Unai Emery confirmed a couple of weeks ago: “I spoke with the club and this situation, and the decision is he is going to leave.”

And now given that signing him will cost absolutely nothing, a number of clubs have shown interest him bringing him on board during the summer transfer window.

Some reports have suggested that Danny Welbeck might be heading out of England for the upcoming season but it looks like he will be staying in the Premier League itself.

As of now, two major clubs are said to be the frontrunners to signing him – Newcastle United and Everton.

According to Football Whispers, Newcastle United are clearly the favourites with a 40 per cent chance of bringing Danny Welbeck on board.

While Everton too have a fair chance of signing him but he is currently looking for game time and by joining the Magpies, Welbeck will surely be able to enjoy an uninterrupted amount of minutes.

Rafa Benitez is expected to be handed a new deal at St James’ Park once the ownership dilemma is sorted out.

And as soon as that happens, he is expected to make a move for the former Arsenal misfit.

Right now, Danny Welbeck is holidaying and Newcastle United are expected to make contact with him only after he returns back. Having said that though, Benitez would want to wrap up the transfer before the Magpies reassemble for their pre-season tour next month.
