Man United and Spurs will have to shell out £40M for this keeper: Is he really that valuable?

Brentford are ready to sell their keeper David Raya with Manchester United and Tottenham interested in signing him but the two clubs will have to pay £40 million for the 27-year-old.

Spurs will lose Hugo Lloris and Erik ten Hag also wants to replace David de Gea which is why both these clubs are eyeing Raya as the long-term replacement.

Brentford have signed Mark Flekken from Freiburg which means the Bees currently have three goalkeepers. They are willing to sell David Raya but manager Thomas Frank has made it clear that his current No 1 is a top-notch keeper and hence is valued likewise.

“I hope he will stay forever but it looks like it could be difficult with the contract situation,” manager Thomas Frank said(h/t Sky Sports).

“He must be at least £40m plus. If he had three years it would be £70m.

“How much was Kepa? He is at least as good as him.”

Is David Raya worth £40 million?

The 27-year-old played 38 Premier League games this season and he kept 12 clean sheets and conceded 46 goals. The Bees had the fifth-best defensive record in the league and the teams above them are the top-four sides of the EPL table.

These stats go on to show that Brentford were really solid in defence but David Raya has only one more year left on his contract and his current market value is only £28 million.

There’s no way Spurs or Manchester United will want to pay £40 million for a player who has only one more year left on his deal but Brentford are a club that hold onto their demands.

The club’s management has made it clear that they won’t mind letting David Raya leave as a free agent rather than selling him for a lower valuation.

As far as Manchester United and Tottenham are concerned, both teams need a goalkeeper and in the current scenario, £40 million is actually a bargain deal for someone like David Raya. Neither of them will mind spending £40 million and if all their other options are shut then Raya is a very safe option.
