Celtic FC narrowly missed out on signing Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull last summer but Neil Lennon is planning to make a move for him this year as well.

The 20-year-old was in fine form for Motherwell during the 2018-19 season which earned him the big move to Celtic but a nasty injury halted his progress, eventually forcing the Bhoys to pull the plug on this deal.

David Turnbull eventually had knee surgery as a result of which he missed almost the whole of the 2019-20 season and as per Alan Hutton, Neil Lennon will take his own sweet time before choosing to make a move for the central midfielder this summer.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I really felt for him – I thought he had a great season at Motherwell and then to get his dream move – he mentioned it was his dream move – to fail on the medical – it’s a double blow.

“You’ve done really well, got a dream move and then it collapses and you’re out for the season – it’s difficult to take just one, never mind missing out on the move.

“He’s gone away, got it fixed and fingers crossed it’s okay but there will obviously be that side at Celtic that will need to watch with the risk that’s involved with a serious injury.

“They’ll want to make sure he can do pre-season, play games and then maybe they’ll come back in for him. Hopefully, he can get back to that form he had with Motherwell because I thought he was excellent.

“He’ll have a point to prove, we know he’s a good player, he’ll want to get back fit and show to everybody his ability. Of course, he’ll want that move again, for him to get that he has to get back to that level and he’ll be desperate to do so.”

David Turnbull has been completely out of touch this past season and so signing him for the upcoming season will be nothing short of a gamble for the Bhoys.

But having said this, if Olivier Ntcham was to head to the Premier League in the coming months then Lennon will undoubtedly move to sign Turnbull, without thinking much about the impact he will make.

Last summer, Celtic were ready to £3.25 million for the midfielder but with the injury setback, we don’t think the Glasgow side will be ready to pay the same amount this year as well.
