Celtic FC tried to get their hands on Motherwell’s David Turnbull last year but the deal eventually did not go through due to his injury concerns.

And as per an exclusive report in the Football Insider, the Bhoys have reignited their interest in the Motherwell central midfielder for the upcoming transfer window.

The report claims: “David Turnbull is very keen for his dream move to Celtic to be resurrected this summer after fully recovering from injury, Football Insider understands.

“The Motherwell playmaker, 20, was on the verge of signing for the Hoops last year until the plug was pulled at the eleventh hour after his medical revealed a potentially career-threatening knee problem.

“A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Turnbull still wants to join Celtic even though he penned a 12-month extension to his Motherwell contract in March.”

Will Lennon try and sign David Turnbull?

Neil Lennon could be parting ways with Olivier Ntcham who is wanted by Premier League side Southampton. And maybe that is why the Bhoys are trying to sign David Turnbull once again.

During the 2018-19 season, the 20-year-old was one of the best players in the Premiership, scoring 16 goals and providing seven assists in just 34 games for Motherwell. So making a move for his last summer was a really great decision.

But a serious knee surgery has halted the player’s progress and this season he has managed to feature in just 2 Premiership games for a total of just 36 minutes.

And we are not quite if Celtic need to bring in a player who has had such big injury miseries in the past 12 months.

The talent in David Turnbull is undoubtedly there but if he cannot shake away his injuries quick enough then Neil Lennon will just be dragging excess baggage for the 2020-21 season.

Having said all this, the Hoops will still try and sign the central midfielder especially if Ntcham starts packing his bags in the coming months.
