Dayot Upamecano & Ibrahima Konate
v.li.: Ibrahima Konate (RB Leipzig, 6), Reinhold Yabo (Salzburg, 7), Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig, 5); Aktion, action

Premier League club Arsenal seen to have suffered a massive setback in the signing of RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano – as per reports.

It’s no secret that Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his defensive line at Arsenal during the summer and for that, the first thing he needs to do is to bring in a new centre-back.

The likes of David Luiz, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi have disappointed heavily during the current season and if Arteta keeps using them, then there’s no way Arsenal will be getting back into the Champions League next season as well.

And this is why the Gunners have been keeping a keen eye on Dayot Upamecano over the past couple of months.

Dayot Upamecano has been a rock-solid performer for RB Leipzig ever since he joined the club back in 2017 but with just one year left on his current deal, the Bundesliga side are reportedly ready to cash in on him in the summer.

The player has a release clause of €60 million but since he’s near the end of his term, the German side are willing to let him go for a fee of around €40 million.

All this would have made Upamecano the perfect target for Arsenal but it seems Manchester United have now entered the race to sign him at the end of the season.

Man United up until now, were heavily interested in signing Kalidou Koulibaly but the Red Devils now want to make a move for Dayot Upamecano since he has turned out to be a much cheaper alternative.

The 21-year-old has been tipped to become a top-class player and at just €40 million, he would have been the perfect alternative to someone like a Mustafi or Sokratis.

But now with Man United entering the race to sign the defender with all their financial power, the Gunners are sure to fall down the pecking order in this race.
