The 2018 World Cup is about to come to an end and with that, the focus will shift to club football once again.

But before that, the debate of who has been the best player of the previous season has to be settled – via the Ballon d’Or.

For the past ten seasons, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have had a monopoly over the tournament. This year though with both the players making an early exit from the World Cup might mean that the Ballon d’Or could have a new owner.

Players like Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard have been mentioned a lot during the course of the previous year but the latter thinks that the winner of the Ballon d’Or is already decided.

Yes, Eden Hazard has made a sly comment which indicates to the fact that the Ballon d’Or might be fixed – according to him.

When asked as to who will win the Ballon d’Or this year the Chelsea playmaker commented:

“It will be for Messi or Cristiano, it is written like that.

I remember a year in which [Franck] Ribery won everything and didn’t get it.”

In all honesty, this is the first year when a few other names have been mentioned apart from Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi but we don’t that the Ballon d’Or will be handed to a new winner.

If we look at Mo Salah, for instance, he has had a wonderful scoring record with Liverpool during the 2017-18 season, but the Egyptian has failed to grab a major silverware during that time – the Champions League final being the only feather in his cap.

Eden Hazard, on the other hand, had a very poor season with Chelsea but managed to changed things around by making it to the semi-finals of the World Cup with Belgium, where they were knocked out of the tournament by France.
