Rangers FC have just signed Lassana Coulibaly from Angers on a season-long loan deal making the midfielder their eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
And now if reports are to be believed then the Gers are planning to add a full-back amongst their ranks.
Iranian defender Milad Mohammadi is rumoured to be on the radar of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard after a successful campaign during the World Cup.
Mohammadi will be known for some time as the player who attempted to do a summersault throw-in during Iran’s group stage encounter versus Spain but it seems that his World Cup endeavours clubbed with his club performances have caught the eye of the Light Blues.
Milad Mohammadi currently plays in the Russian Premier League for FK Akhmat and during the 2017-18 season, the left-back made 23 appearances for the club.
Akhmat currently value the player at 3 million pounds but if Rangers push in hard then they might be able to bag him for far less a price given the 24-year-old has only one year left on his current contract.
But the biggest roadblock in the deal going through is the fact that the Gers are not the only club interested in Milad Mohammadi as other such as PSV Eindhoven, Huddersfield and Stoke City are also planning to make a move for the player.
If Rangers do manage to get the 24-year-old then it will serve as a huge boost for the club given the fact that Mohammadi can play in various other positions(namely right-back and defensive left midfielder) apart from his usual role at left-back.
Up until now, Steven Gerrard has made three defensive signings at Ibrox but none of them are left-backs. And given the current situation of ex-captain Lee Wallace, moving for Milad Mohammadi makes perfect sense.
