Timo Werner Liverpool
Timo Werner (RB Leipzig, 11) kann sein Versagen nicht fassen, nachdem er völlig frei stehend über das Tor schoss; Enttäuschung, enttäuscht, Frustration, disappointed

Man United are set to rival fellow Premier League side Liverpool in the signing of RB Leipzig’s 24-year-old Timo Werner during the upcoming transfer window – as per ESPN.

Rob Dawson writes: “Manchester United are still monitoring Timo Werner’s situation at RB Leipzig despite mounting evidence the striker will end up at Liverpool, sources have told ESPN.

“Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains keen to revamp his forward line in the next transfer window despite widespread concerns about how the market might be affected by the coronavirus pandemic.”

Do Man United have a chance in signing Timo Werner?

Timo Werner has been in top form for Leipzig this season having already scored 24 goals in just 28 Bundesliga matches. But there’s no way the player will be eager to join Man United in the summer by snubbing a move to a club like Liverpool.

Werner has always wanted to work with Jurgen Klopp and recent reports have suggested that the Liverpool boss has even made contact with the 24-year-old in the past few weeks.

Journalist Raphael Honigstein told BT Sport, as reported: “So far Liverpool have been linked closely and there has been a meeting between him and Jurgen Klopp, at least a virtual one over the last few weeks.

“I think they’re a bit hesitant to pull the trigger because they haven’t quite figured out how much of a financial problem the coronavirus will present itself to football, coming over the next month in the Premier League.

“I think he’s waiting for things to fall into shape and it could be that the transfer window is much later than usual. This kind of deal would have been announced in April/May, this time it could be August or September, but I still think there’s a very strong chance he’ll end up at Liverpool.”

Man United do need to add one more centre-forward to their ranks before the 2020-21 season but we do not think Timo Werner will be that man.

The German international will not let go the opportunity to work with Klopp at Liverpool meaning Solskjaer has no other option but to shift his focus to other targets like Raul Jimenez and Harry Kane.
