Thomas Partey to Arsenal

Premier League side Arsenal are now the favourites to sign midfielder Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid, according to a report by The Telegraph.

The 26-year-old is being eyed on by clubs like Liverpool as well but as per the update, Thomas is keen to join the Emirates outfit instead of a move to Anfield next season.

The report suggests: “Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has made it clear he would like to move to Arsenal and is hoping a deal can be struck between the clubs.

“The Ghana international, 26, has told those close to him he has ambitions of proving himself in the Premier League with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

“He was high on the list of targets for Mikel Arteta before football shut down for the coronavirus pandemic and a move will hinge on whether Arsenal can structure a deal. They have asked players to take wage cuts to cope with the impact of Covid-19 and are unlikely to spend heavily.”

Why is Thomas Partey choosing Arsenal over Liverpool?

Liverpool are easily one of the best sides in European football right now but still, Thomas Partey is not too enthusiastic about joining the Anfield outfit in the summer.

And maybe it’s because of the high competition in the midfield area.

Jurgen Klopp has players like Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho and Naby Keita who all do the same job as the 26-year-old meaning there’s no way Thomas will slide right into the first XI.

At Arsenal, the midfielder is much more confident about getting more starts since players like Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi have been really mediocre this season.

Mikel Arteta is clearly not a fan of guys like Gunedouzi and Torreira meaning if Thomas Partey was to choose Arsenal over Liverpool, he will undoubtedly get a royal treatment.

But, at the same time, if the Atletico man moves to the Emirates this summer, he will have to settle for Europa League football, at least for the 2020-21 season.

The Ghanian international has a release clause of around £45million which makes him an even more lucrative signing for the North London club.
