Manchester United have shown interest in signing attacking midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax, as confirmed by Edwin van der Sar. But in the same breath, the Ajax top man has also made it clear that his club are not in a financial mess meaning they will not be compelled to sell off their star players for cheap.

The Ajax CEO told Dutch publication NoS, via Daily Mail: “We know players have an ambition to leave for a better competition after a few years, but this will only happen on the conditions of Marc Overmars and Ajax.

“There will always be some who benefit from a crisis and some clubs will have to sell for less, but I think we’re in a fortunate position thanks to our strong financial policy.

“Therefore we don’t have to sell, but we made agreements with the players.

“These won’t go below a certain price level. We won’t let go of our players for sale prices. We prefer to keep them here.”

Do Man United need Donny van de Beek?

Donny van de Beek has come up through the ranks at the famed Ajax academy and the 23-year-old is easily one of the most talked-about players in the Amsterdam club in recent times.

While the player will no doubt be a fine addition to any first-team squad but we think Solskjaer is just making enquiries in case his move for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish collapses.

Grealish has always been Man United’s first-choice in the transfer market in terms of signing an attacking midfielder but the deal has seen very little progress over the past couple of months.

And while Man United should still be able to wrap up this transfer once the 2019-20 season comes to an end but we think their Norwegian boss is chalking up a contingency plan by making probes about Donny van de Beek.

Apart from playing in the attacking midfielder’s role, the Netherlands international also plays in central midfield, a position which is currently occupied by Paul Pogba. And if the Frenchman does not leave then there’s no way Van De Beek will come in to dethrone the World Cup winner.

The 23-year-old has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 23 Eredivisie matches this past campaign and he is currently valued at £39 million as per TransferMarkt.
