Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated the footballing world for close to a decade but slowly that duopoly is fading away and the person that has been majorly responsible for that is Eden Hazard.

Hazard has been on the verge of greatness for some time now but this season the Belgium international is truly showing his potential after having a wonderful campaign with the national side during the World Cup.

Many claim Eden Hazard is the best player in the Premier League right now and the playmaker showed exactly why people think so after a superb solo goal vs Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

The third round match was perfectly poised at 1-1 when Hazard decided to wiggle past a couple of Liverpool defenders to put the ball into the back of the net and in doing so inflicted Liverpool’s first defeat of the new season.

Here’s the goal:

This solo goal was in complete contrast with his performance vs West Ham United last weekend when the Belgian had multiple opportunities to shoot but chose to pass the ball to a teammate instead.

And after the match, his teammate and England international Ross Barkley has come out to say why exactly Eden Hazard is better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Barkley said“Compared to them [Messi and Ronaldo], they are probably a lot more selfish than Eden is,

“He is not a selfish player. He is happy getting two assists and the team winning. He is adding goals and he keeps improving.

“What he has done against Liverpool, honestly he’s doing it every day in training. It’s no surprise to us. At the minute, he is the best player in the world, I believe.

“You’re not surprised when you see him do it in a game like that. But what a goal! He’s been showing it for the last five or six years and he is establishing himself in the top three players in the world.

“At the minute, he’s probably the best player in the world, the way he is playing. He is producing things like that on the pitch.

“He is capable of producing magic at any moment in the game,

“He keeps defenders on the back foot and sometimes you see him attracting two or three players and that creates space for others, like myself, our other wingers and the strikers. When he gets closed down, he opens up space for others. He is that type of player.”

Chelsea will once again face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend but Maurizio Sarri will know the stakes will be much higher this time as Jurgen Klopp’s men still remain undefeated in the Premier League.
