The Football Association has announced that it will back the club who want an optional safe standing area inside their stadiums.
As you might have noticed no football ground in England has a standing area for the spectators but this was not the case always.
Prior to 1989, fans were allowed to stand inside the stadium but that was outlawed by the Football Spectators’ Act in 1989, following the recommendations of the Taylor Report into the Hillsborough disaster.
This meant that all the stadiums in England had to be an all-seater but that might now change after the FA has shown it’s support for safe standing areas inside the stadium.
The FA have made it’s stance clear that it will back the club who want to have a choice of a standing area inside their stadium and in relation to this, an FA spokesperson said(as reported by Sky Sports):

“The FA supported the announcement from Sports Minister Tracey Crouch in June to conduct an “external analysis of evidence in relation to the all-seater policy” and supports clubs and leagues in having the option to choose whether they wish to provide standing options for supporters should there be clear evidence that satisfies the authorities over safety and security.”
This will be implemented in both the Premier League as well as the Champions League which is a welcome news for a number of clubs who have been wanting to add safe standing areas inside their grounds for some time now.
A classic example of this is Tottenham Hotspur who have built their stadium keeping in mind that safe standing areas could be installed inside the ground in the future.
