Fernando Torres has announced that he would be retiring from football and speaking about his footballing career the Spanish goal-machine has named the best player he has played with.

Fernando Torres joined Liverpool in 2007 from his boyhood club Atletico Madrid and he spent three and a half years with the Anfield outfit before joining Chelsea.

It was with Liverpool that Torres undoubtedly played the best football of his professional career and the forward has claimed that current Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is the best player he has played alongside.

Many people have been truly surprised that Fernando Torres has picked Gerrard has his best player given that he played in one of the finest Spanish sides of all.

Fernando Torres played alongside the likes of Andreas Iniesta and Xavi but he still opted to pick the Gers boss which clearly goes on to show what a fine player, Steven Gerrard actually was.

“I always say the best player I played with is Steven Gerrard,” he told reporters(as reported by Goal).

“I found he was the player who completed my game. I think my level got into a different dimension when I was on the pitch with him

“It was an amazing three-and-a-half years playing alongside Steven and I would love to go back to those days – even for one minute.

“I have a high demand for myself,

“I’ve always wanted to be honest and to perform at the level I think I should and I think the time I will not be able to perform at the level I ask for myself is not far away, and I don’t want to arrive at the time that I am going on the pitch and I’m not enjoying it.

“To say goodbye to football next to my dear friend Iniesta is something I could never imagine, and Japan is going to make it possible,

“Also there will be my friend David Villa, with who I probably share the best moments in Spanish football history.”

Fernando Torres is currently playing for Japanese side Sagan Tosu and will play his final match against Vissel Kobe on August 22.
