Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard

For the past decade or so there has been a pretty big debate about the best midfielder in the Premier League and most often than not, three names have popped up.

The first one being that of England and Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard. The current Rangers manager might not have won a Premier League but he is still regarded as one of the best midfielders of the past generation.

The second one is Gerrard’s England mate and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. Along with Gerrard, the current Derby manager was the mainstay for the England national team for close to a decade.

And the third player who is part of the debate is Manchester United’s Paul Scholes who is widely regarded as the best midfielder of his generation – atleast by his peer. While Scholes was not too influential for England, his career for Manchester United was trophy-laden.

And these three players have been the centre of debate amongst the fans as to who is the best from the past decade.

So EA Sports have now tried to solve this issue in FIFA 19.

FIFA 19 have released Paul Scholes icon card on Wednesday and we can finally compare it with the cards of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

After Scholes’, Gerrard’s and Lampard’s three icon cards are averaged out, here’s how it looks:

1. Paul Scholes: 89 (highest rating of 91)
2. Steven Gerrard: 88.6 (highest rating of 91)
3. Frank Lampard: 88 (highest rating of 90)

In terms of other statistics:

Best Passer – Scholes
Fastest – Gerrard
Best at Defending – Gerrard
Most Physical – Gerrard
Best Shooter – Gerrard & Lampard tied
Best Dribbler – Gerrard
