The FIFA Player of the Year nominees have been revealed.

FIFA on their official website have revealed the names of the three players who have been shortlisted for the Player of the Year.

And the names are very similar to that of the UEFA Mens Player of the Year nominations.

Here are the top three players for the FIFA Player of the Year award:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo:

FIFA Player of the Year
Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese had another impressive season with Real Madrid – winning his third consecutive Champions League with Real Madrid. He was also the top scorer of in the Champions League during the 2017/18 season – scoring 15 goals.

Ronaldo won the Club World Cup with Real Madrid last summer in UAE but this transfer window he chose to move out of the La Liga and join Juventus in the Serie A.

2. Luka Modric:

FIFA Player of the Year
Luka Modric Real Madrid Croatia

Like Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric was also part of the Champions League winning team last season.

Apart from that, the midfielder captained Croatia to their first ever World Cup final in Russia which helped him win the Golden Ball at the end of the tournament.

3. Mo Salah:

FIFA Player of the Year
Mo Salah Egypt Liverpool

Salah is the third and final nominee for the FIFA Player of the Year award after he had a record-breaking season with Liverpool which saw him score 32 goals in the Premier League and then guide his team to the Champions League final – which they eventually lost to Real Madrid.

Salah though had a very average run in the 2018 World Cup.

Notable absentees:

The entry of Luka Modric and Mo Salah means that Lionel Messi has failed to make it to the top three for the first time in 12 long years which echoes the average season he had with Barcelona – atleast by his standards.

Other players who were in contention but failed to make it to the top three are:

Kevin De Bruyne – Man City.

Antoine Griezmann – Atletico Madrid.

Eden Hazard – Chelsea.

Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur.

Kylian Mbappe – PSG.

Raphael Varane – Real Madrid.
