England face Germany in the Round of 16 of the European Championship and manager Gareth Southgate has some key choices to make for this game.

The Three Lions will see the return of Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell who have been in quarantine for the past 10 days. Both the Chelsea players will be available for selection and according to Sky Sports, at least Mount could be named in the first XI.

Sky Sports are reporting: “It now seems that Southgate is seriously considering including Mount in England’s starting XI at Wembley, even though he will not have trained with the rest of the squad for more than a week.

“Southgate will leave that decision until the last minute. It would be a big risk, considering that Mount was not able to take part in England’s final tactical training session on Monday morning.”

Phil Foden was another player who missed out during the Czech Republic game and he too is likely to feature from the start against Germany.

“He’s on a yellow card and given that we look like we’re missing two players already for the next round, I don’t want to take a risk on a third,” Southgate had said.

If Foden returns to the side then Bukayo Saka will have to make way and the likes of Rashford and Jadon Sancho will only be coming on as a sub.

And perhaps the biggest news of all is that the England boss might opt for a 3-4-3 system at Wembley, something which Southgate has not used very often.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol is claiming: “England manager Gareth Southgate is considering switching to playing with three centre-backs for Tuesday’s Euro 2020 last-16 clash against Germany.

“England have not played 3-4-3 this year and the last time they used the formation was when they beat Iceland 4-0 at Wembley in November 2020.”

If it’s a three-man central defence then Tyrone Mings is going to come back into the side to feature alongside Harry Maguire and John Stones.

The manager also has the option of Ben White but don’t think the 23-year-old will be used in this game.

Luke Shaw has been in good form but if Southgate is planning to use wing-backs then we don’t think he is the ideal choice. Someone like Ben Chilwell will be a more apt selection.

The same can be said about Kyle Walker and if Gareth Southgate is using a 3-4-3 system then Reece James is more likely to come into the side and play as the right wing-back.

This formation also means Jack Grealish and Mason Mount are not expected to start together in the attacking third and even Raheem Sterling might not make it to the starting line-up.
