Germany and England face each other in the Round of 16 of the European Championship on Tuesday and according to the Telegraph, Gareth Southgate is planning a major change to his system.

In the build-up to this game, there had been whispers that the England boss could opt for a change in formation and use a three-man defensive line for the Round of 16 clash.

Now as per the leaked starting line-up, Gareth Southgate is indeed trying to use the formation which helped his side get so much success in the 2018 World Cup.

Telegraph’s Matt Law is claiming: “Gareth Southgate is set to go back to the future and revert to a three-man defence for England’s European Championships last-16 tie against Germany at Wembley on Tuesday night.

“And England manager Southgate has told his players they can create an iconic moment in the country’s football history that “lives forever” by beating the Germans on home soil and winning a knockout game in the Euros for only the second time to reach the quarter-finals.

“England are yet to concede a goal in the tournament, but, barring a late change of heart, manager Southgate wants to match up the Germans and play with a similar formation to the one his team beat Belgium with in October last year and reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup with.”

As per the report, Kyle Walker will play on the right-hand side of the three-man central defence with Kieran Trippier playing as the right wing-back and Luke Shaw playing on the left-hand side.

Some people thought Ben White or Tyrone Mings will come into the side if Southgate opts for a 3-4-3. But that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Jack Grealish is going to be sacrificed despite having a great outing against the Czech Republic while Mason Mount is also not expected to get a place in the starting line-up.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka will make way for Man City’s Phil Foden while Raheem Sterling is going to be the other attacking player.
