The 2018-19 Scottish Premiership kicks off this weekend as fans will finally get to see if Steven Gerrard’s new look Rangers side can match up to the defending champions Celtic.

The Hoops take on newly promoted side Livingston while Rangers go on the road to take on last season’s runners-up Aberdeen.

And former Celtic striker Andy Walker feels that the Light Blues will drop point in their very first game of the season while his former side will go forward with a regulation victory.

Andy Walker said“It’s very unlike Celtic to spend so much on one player but the £8m outlay on Odsonne Edouard, but he highlights the gulf in spending power between the Scottish champions and everyone else chasing them,

“If he stays fit, I expect Edouard to finish as the league’s top scorer.

“Conor Goldson is a truly remarkable story. After recovering from heart surgery at 24 to get the chance of signing for Rangers in what should prove to be a fascinating story under the guidance of Steven Gerrard.

“We know Rangers are capable of scoring goals, Goldson has the responsibility to improve the team defensively.”

Walker has claimed that Brendan Rodgers side will beat Livingston 2-0 while Rangers will be held by Aberdeen 2-2.

The first game of the Scottish League will show us a glimpse of how Steven Gerrard wants his first team to look like for the next year or so.

And the game against Aberdeen will also give the Gers fans an idea about the players that are going to play a less important role and possibly head for the exit doors during this month.

Celtic FC, on the other hand, might not have made a flurry of signings like their Old Firm rivals but Brendan Rodgers has managed to hold onto his squad which won him the 2017-18 with such ease.

Celtic host Livingston at Celtic Park on Saturday the 4th of August and Rangers are in action the next day as they travel to Pittodrie in order to take on Aberdeen.
