The Premier League kicks off this weekend as Man United play the first game of the new season against Leicester City.

And a number of people have placed their bets on Jose Mourinho’s side to give a tough fight to Manchester City in the race for the championship.

Former Man United defender and multiple time Premier League winner has given his predictions about who will win the 2018-19 season of the Premier League and he has refused to put his money on his former side.

The defender feels that the negativity surrounding Jose Mourinho’s side will make a huge impact and this is probably the biggest reason why the Red Devils will fail to become the Premier League champions this season.

Ferdinand has also predicted that both United’s arch-rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool will finish above Jose Mourinho’s side at the end of May.

Talking to the Mirror, Rio Ferdinand said“I’m a United fan, and I want to see them win the title, but I fear it’s going to be very difficult for that to happen this season,

“In the meantime, Manchester City look stronger than ever and Liverpool have improved again.

“I can’t see past City and Liverpool as the top two — and to say that about the two clubs who wouldn’t be top of any United fan’s Christmas card list is horrendous.

“There seems to be a lot of negativity around United at the moment, and that doesn’t bode well,

“The manager is obviously not happy about the signings he hasn’t been able to make and not having certain players available on their pre-season tour, which isn’t nice to hear if you are a young kid trying to make your mark on the fringes of the squad.”

“Harry Maguire did great at the World Cup, but of the players potentially available he would not be my first choice.

“I would go for Alderweireld, all day long because he is suited to the way United play.

“But it will take more than a quality defender to galvanise them, and this is where you have to respect Mourinho’s track record and his history of winning trophies.”

Man United play the first game of the new season on Friday against the Foxes but both Manchester City and Liverpool have much tougher games this weekend as Guardiola’s men travel to the Emirates and face a new look Arsenal side while Liverpool welcome another London side in the form of West Ham.
