Frank Lampard suffered yet another defeat as Chelsea manager this time his players losing 2-0 to Southampton in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

The Saints went down to Michael Obafemi’s superb strike in the 31st minute and then it was Nathan Redmond who added the second courtesy of a fine team goal.

After the win against Spurs, it seemed like Frank Lampard had been able to bring back the confidence amongst his players but a loss to Southampton clearly busted all those myths.

And according to Tony Cottee, the Chelsea boss got his tactics wrong during the match which was one of the main reasons why the home side failed to break down Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side.

The West Ham legend said via The Metro: ‘I don’t want to be too critical of Frank because he’s a young manager and he’s learning his job.

‘But he might look back and think he shouldn’t have played three at the back. It limited the options and meant Tammy [Abraham] was playing up on his own basically.

‘He didn’t play badly but there was no support. It caused Chelsea problems. He [Frank] changed it up at half-time but it was very flat. The atmosphere was very flat.

‘It was very quiet in the stadium and Chelsea never got going. You can’t take anything away from Southampton because they did a great job.

‘With so many young players you’re going to get inconsistency.

‘But Chelsea are still in the Champions League positions which Frank will be delighted at. He would have taken this when he took over all day long.’

At the back of this win, Frank Lampard will now take his side to the Emirates on Sunday in order to take on Areta’s Arsenal.
